Peer Support & Systems Navigation Corner
Peer support is a wonderful value-add service to boost the quality of life for individuals, families and communities, making a positive difference at every level of society. My personal life journey has afforded tremendous insight, healing and growth, with lessons learned through struggles and challenges, reflection, interactions, in-depth studies, self-help, lifelong learning, and advanced training, academically and professionally.
Unconditional, nonjudgemental love and acceptance is the foundation.
I am so blessed because of the wonderful people who invested quality time and:
- listened to me
- believed (in) me
- validated my experience
- accepted me wherever I was at
- invested quality time
- cared about my health and well-being
- shared insights when I was ready to listen
- participated in my self-discovery
- helped me identify strengths to build on
- empowered me to make informed choices
- supported me through my struggles
- strategized solutions as a thought-partner
- spoke hope into my worldview and self-image
- led me through tunnels to the other side when I was blind and could not see
- cheered me on as I made my way through the forest
- celebrated moments of victory; and
- never gave up on me
I want the same for others. It is an honor to be part of the journey in an individual's life. When we are lucky, sometimes we get to watch someone heal and blossom. Sometimes, circumstances only give us a short window of time to participate, where all we might be able to do is speak a few words of encouragement, plant a seed, or serve water.
There is an art to being a successful Peer Support Provider, Coach, Navigator, Specialist, Trainer and/or Supervisor. Every day the body of knowledge and evidence speaking to its effectiveness continues to grow. I will be adding resources to this page, and if you have a suggestion or resource to share, please let me know.
We are all on the same team and I know you can help make a tremendous difference, because you are unique and special!
